In the Community

As a capacity building organisation,
IMAGINE has no agenda of its own.
Its community based projects have always
been led by the people and government departments from within the region.

IMAGINE work in partnership with the Dept. of Water and Sanitation, Health and Agriculture in KaTembe to support their
community development activities.

Water

KaTembe is a region with very limited access to clean water.
Since commencing work in the area, IMAGINE have assisted
with the building of water bore holes.
To date 12 bore holes have been placed
and 30 people have been provided with training
in bore hole maintenance and water care.
Committees in each district have been set up to collect small fees
to cover the costs of essential repairs and maintenance and
ensure the sustainability of the programme.

In addition IMAGINE assisted the district of Inguide with water pipes
to take water from tanks on the main road, closer to people's homes.
600 metres of piping was laid and 24 taps placed, to carry clean water close to over 150 people living in rural areas.

Agriculture

IMAGINE worked alongside the Dept. of Agriculture to develop Agricultural Associations in 4 of the 5 districts of KaTembe.

Each association enrolled around 50 members
They were given a 2 week training course in basic agricultural techniques
and provided with tools and seeds to grow crops
for personal consumption and sale locally.

Many who volunteered to join the associations were
registered for support on the IMAGINE FAP.

Other Community Projects

IMAGINE worked with the Dept. of Sport and Recreation to provide facilities to engage youth in positive social activities.
This led to the construction of a community basketball court.

Between 2005 and 2011 IMAGINE provided a community Ambulance for the transport of people from their homes to hospital in KaTembe.
No such service was available and many people living in rural areas of KaTembe where unable to get to hospital in their hour of need.

2010 statistics however showed that the need for the ambulance had dramatically reduced - due to an increase in public transport in the area and potentially an overall improvement in health and health services in the area, reducing the number of emergency admissions.

Given the data on passenger carriage it was determined that the ambulance was no longer the most effective use of IMAGINE funds and the ambulance was decommissioned at the end of 2010.
