Education Support
IMAGINE's activities in the Education Sector
support the organisations mission to improve
the future prospects of those living in KaTembe.
IMAGINE met with the dept. of Education in KaTembe when they relocated, to begin a working partnership with them.
Through this partnership, IMAGINE aim to provide practical and relevant education support to the region, to improve access to and quality of, education in the area.
School Refurbishment
& the School Desks Programme
IMAGINE aimed to improve the availability and quality of schooling
in KaTembe through the improvement of schools and school facilities.
IMAGINE has refurbished two schools in KaTembe;
Lewis Petros Primary school in Inguide required complete refurbishment with new windows, doors, better toilet facilities,
electricity and water supply. Guachene Primary school was
completely repainted and supplied with electricity.
The schools have combined capacity for >1000 pupils.
IMAGINE also agreed to assist the Dept. of Education with the task
to fit all classrooms in KaTembe with school desks,
to create environments conducive to learning.
IMAGINE have to date provided over 350 desks between 10 schools in KaTembe. They have a remaining 10 classrooms to furnish.
In 2011, IMAGINE intend to push forward with this programme
and enable more children in KaTembe
the opportunity to learn effectively at school.
Vocational Skills Training
IMAGINE and the dept. of Education recognise that skills training colleges are an effective way to combat unemployment and
improve the social circumstances of individuals and families.
It is that old saying, teach a man to fish....
IMAGINE worked in collaboration with Social Action and the dept. of Education to develop a sewing centre in the district of Guachane.
The centre provides training and employment for
previously unemployed women and widows.
Among other things, they produce school uniforms for sale in KaTembe.
IMAGINE have recently constructed another sewing centre at
the Family Homes of Hope which will produce bedding and clothing for the homes and for sale, as well as providing skills training sessions for the young adults resident there.
In 2010 IMAGINE refurbished derelict buildings on the site of one KaTembe school, to provide a centre for skills training. The refurbishment now complete, IMAGINE aim to make the centre operational in 2011 to provide training sessions in carpentry and metalwork, to the school pupils.
IMAGINE have also supported the development of skills in young individuals who have come into their care,
and demonstrated a creative or artistic talent.
IMAGINE aim to enable such individuals to use their skills
to build a positive future for themselves.
IMAGINE are currently selling artwork on behalf of ex-street boy Virgillio, who lives in Maputo and produces a variety of artworks on canvas.
